SRT to hire more staff to fill posts

TRANSPORT: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Board has approved the addition of 2,850 staff positions to address workforce shortages and support operations for Phase 1 of the double‑track railway projects and new lines.

The decision will be submitted to the cabinet for consideration. According to acting governor Anan Phonimdaeng, the new positions are essential for safety and efficiency, reducing overtime costs and ensuring readiness for upcoming infrastructure developments.

These include the opening of double‑track routes between Nakhon Pathom–Chumphon, Map Kabao–Thanon Chira Junction, Lopburi–Pak Nam Pho this year; the launch of new routes between Ban Phai–Nakhon Phanom, Den Chai–Chiang Khong, Khon Kaen–Nong Khai from next year and the delivery of new rolling stock. The new staff will also fill positions that cannot be replaced by technology or outsourcing.
