The "Slay the Spire 2" Major Update #2 brings together several beta branch updates that have been tested since April. While some players may already be familiar with the changes, this marks the first time the entire update has arrived on the main branch.
The patch introduces one of the most requested features since early access began. It also tackles balance issues, fixes a frustrating bug, and removes one of the game's most controversial bosses.
Steam Workshop Support Finally Arrives
The biggest addition in this update is Steam Workshop support.
According to Kotaku, players have been able to mod Slay the Spire 2 since launch, but the process required manual installation. That extra step made modding less accessible, especially for newcomers.
Now, players can browse and install mods directly through Steam. Subscribing to new content takes only a few clicks.
The community has already embraced the feature. Hundreds of mods are available on the Workshop. Some add quality-of-life improvements, while others introduce entirely new gameplay mechanics. A few creators have even restored content that was removed during development.
For players who enjoy customizing their runs, Workshop integration makes the process much easier.
Doormaker Removed and Replaced by a New Boss
Major Update #2 also includes several balance adjustments for elite encounters.
Enemies such as Skulking Colony and Infested Prism have received tweaks designed to create a smoother difficulty curve. Some encounters became easier, while others now pose a greater challenge.
The biggest change, however, involves the Act 3 boss Doormaker.
The boss became one of the most criticized parts of Slay the Spire 2. Many players felt the encounter was frustrating rather than challenging. The backlash even contributed to negative Steam reviews.
Mega Crit has responded by removing Doormaker entirely.
Taking its place is a brand-new Act 3 boss called Aeonglass. The change shows that the developers are paying close attention to community feedback during early access.
Major RNG Bug Finally Fixed
Another important fix targets a strange issue involving the game's random number generation system.
Players recently discovered that some supposedly random events were occurring far more often than they should. This affected multiple mechanics throughout the game.
One frequently discussed example involved the Ancient relic Neow's Bones. Players reported receiving the Debt curse much more often than expected.
Mega Crit has now corrected the underlying problem. Randomized outcomes should behave as intended moving forward, creating a fairer experience overall.
Hidden Card Finally Appears
The RNG fix also uncovered an unexpected side effect.
Because of the bug, the Rebound card was effectively missing from the Trash Heap event. The card was meant to appear from launch, but never showed up correctly.
Now that the issue has been resolved, players can finally encounter Rebound during the event as originally intended.
