Jesy Nelson 'set to join Towie' as part of 'glam mums group' after her twins' health issues

Jesy Nelson is reportedly planning to join the cast of Towie.

The former Little Mix singer has been in the headlines this past year with her twin daughters Ocean Jade and Story Monroe’s heartbreaking health issues.

The 35-year-old is said to be putting her music career on hold to make a surprise foray into reality television.

She is reportedly going to meet some of the Towie team and cast to see how she could slot into the ITV2 show, with sources claiming she could be part of the “glam mums group” alongside Lauren Goodger and Amy Childs.

“It’s a total natural fit,” a source told The Sun.

“Jesy is from Essex and knows a lot of the cast anyway so it’s not going to feel forced. She’s been talking a lot to Lauren and Amy Childs in particular so it’s likely she’ll be a part of their glam mums group.”

The insider added: “While nothing is confirmed yet, to even have Jesy in talks for the show is a huge deal for Towie.

“She’s an internationally famous Essex girl who was part of one of the world’s most successful girl groups – to say they’re excited would be an understatement.”

The Standard has contacted Nelson’s representative and Towie for comment.

Nelson, who is a self-confessed fan of the reality show, appeared to hint at the apparent role by recreating a shopping scene between Goodger and Carol Wright on Instagram last week.

She penned alongside it: “Anyone that really knows me knows how much I bloody love Towie. Flipping love these two. #iconicqueens.”

It comes after Nelson appeared in her own six-part Amazon docuseries, Life After Little Mix, in which she gave fans an insight into life with her one-year-old twins, who have spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

They were diagnosed with the rare condition which causes progressive muscle wastage.

Following their diagnosis, Nelson began campaigning for screenings at birth and launched a petition for it to be added to the newborn blood spot screening test, also known as the heel-prick test which screens for serious health conditions.

She met former Health Secretary Wes Streeting in January to speak about the life-changing impact early detection of the condition could have had on her twins.

The musician - who left Little Mix in 2020 - also became a patron of charity SMA UK in February.

The singer said in January that her daughters' diagnosis would mean they are unlikely to ever be able to walk or regain their neck strength.

SMA causes muscle weakness, movement problems, problems with breathing and swallowing, muscle tremors, and bone and joint problems, according to the NHS.

In May, it was confirmed that around 750,000 newborns in the UK will be checked for SMA as part of a new study to assess whether screening should be included in post-birth baby checks for serious health conditions.

Speaking to the Press Association earlier this year, Nelson said of her activism: "It has caused a lot of commotion and it's been amazing because the SMA community have been screaming and shouting about this for years, and it's never been taken seriously."

Nelson also experienced a series of complications during her pregnancy, including twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), which the NHS says is caused by abnormal connecting blood vessels in the placenta which leads to an imbalanced blood flow from one twin to the other.
