Celtic submit 'improved" transfer offer for Rangers-linked defender

Celtic have lodged an "improved offer" for Sandefjord defender Zinedin Smajlovic, according to a new report.

On Monday, news outlets in Greece speculated that the former Sweden U21 international had seen an approach by the Scottish Premiership champions rejected, following initial interest reported the day before.

Now, established journalist Rudy Galetti has provided an update on the 22-year-old centre-back's situation via his social media account. On X, the football reported posted, "Celtic have submitted an improved offer for Zinedin Smajlovic worth €4.5m fixed + €2m in bonuses. "Sandefjord are under no pressure to sell, as Olympiacos, Hull City, Rangers, Fenerbahçe, Toulouse, Feyenoord & Lyon are all closely tracking the CB and have made enquiries."

Celtic currently have several central defenders on their books, including Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, Auston Trusty and Dane Murray.

Stephen Welsh left the club to join Swansea City earlier this month, while Benjamin Arthur returned to Brentford following his mid-season loan.
