According to police, the child was reportedly taken from a footpath where she lived with her family around 5am on Monday morning while she was asleep.
Authorities were alerted after a Police Control Room (PCR) call reported the disappearance of a minor, allegedly involving a cab driver.
Police teams were immediately deployed to the area and launched a search operation. Forensic experts were also called in to examine the scene, while CCTV footage from multiple locations in Mehrauli and surrounding routes towards Haryana was reviewed.
During the investigation, police located the girl’s body in a forested area near the Delhi–Gurugram border. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
Investigators said CCTV analysis and local intelligence helped identify and trace the suspect, who was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
“Through extensive analysis of CCTV footage and local intelligence inputs, our teams were able to track down the accused, who has been taken into custody,” a senior police officer said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused is currently being questioned to determine whether others may have been involved. Further investigation is ongoing.
